Oakland is more than where I practice medicine—it is home.

I immigrated from Vietnam to Oakland with my family in 1995. Growing up here shaped the person I became and taught me the importance of community, resilience, education, and service. My family worked hard to build a new life, and their sacrifices gave me opportunities I never take for granted.

My greatest inspiration has always been my mother, Mỹ Vân. She taught me to value learning, generosity, and caring for others. She also inspired my path into medicine in a deeply personal way.

For years, I watched my mother struggle with metabolic health concerns. Her care often centered on adding another medication, yet our family did not always understand why these problems were happening or what could be done to support her health more fully. Some treatments also brought unwanted side effects. I remember wishing that someone would slow down, listen to her entire story, and help her understand the bigger picture.

That experience stayed with me.

I began my education at the University of California, Berkeley, where I studied sociology and education. I was drawn to understanding people—their experiences, environments, cultures, and the systems that influence their lives. I also loved teaching and helping others feel informed and empowered.

Still, I felt called toward something more personal. I wanted a career that would allow me to combine science, education, meaningful human connection, and service. When I discovered naturopathic medicine, everything came together.

I went on to earn my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Sonoran University of Health Sciences. Naturopathic medicine gave me the opportunity to become the kind of doctor I had once wished for my mother: someone who listens carefully, looks beyond isolated symptoms, asks thoughtful questions, and helps patients understand their health.

That vision eventually led me back home to open Origin Health Center in Oakland.

For more than a decade, I have had the privilege of caring for people from throughout Oakland and the Bay Area. Every patient arrives with a different story, and I believe that story matters. A laboratory result or diagnosis may offer important information, but it never represents the whole person sitting in front of me.

My approach begins with listening. I want to understand what you are experiencing, what you have already tried, what concerns you, and what you hope to change. From there, we work together to develop a thoughtful and individualized plan that reflects your needs, values, and goals.

My clinical interests include IV nutrient therapy, regenerative medicine, prolotherapy, metabolic and weight-management support, and aesthetic treatments that help patients feel confident and cared for. While the tools I use may vary, my philosophy remains the same: treatment should be purposeful, personalized, and grounded in respect for the whole person.

One of the most meaningful parts of my work is education. I never want patients to feel that decisions are simply being made for them. I want you to understand your options, feel comfortable asking questions, and become an active participant in your care. My role is not only to provide treatment, but also to help you feel more knowledgeable, hopeful, and confident about your health.

At Origin Health Center, Dr. Kaila and I remain personally involved in the care of our patients. We have intentionally created a practice where people are known, not rushed through; where concerns are taken seriously; and where care is offered with compassion rather than judgment.

Opening Origin Health Center was my way of bringing naturopathic medicine back to the community that raised me. It is an honor to serve Oakland, to care for families from diverse backgrounds, and to contribute to a healthier and more connected community.

I believe healing begins when someone truly listens. My hope is that every patient who walks through our doors feels heard, supported, educated, and inspired to take the next step in their health journey.
