Dr. Kaila Nguyen’s journey into naturopathic medicine began with her father. After an accident left him partially paralyzed, she watched him struggle with chronic illness, extensive testing, and numerous medications without finding the progress their family had hoped for. Her search for a more thoughtful approach to care led her to naturopathic medicine and its guiding principles: first, do no harm; treat the whole person; understand underlying contributors to illness; and respect the healing power of nature.

Her father inspired her career path, but her patients have shaped the doctor she has become. Dr. Kaila believes that meaningful care does not always follow a textbook. Every person is different, and healthcare should reflect each patient’s individual history, needs, and goals.

She especially enjoys educating patients about digestive health, the gut microbiome, food sensitivities, nutrition, perimenopause, menopause, and individualized hormone support. Her approach is grounded in listening, patient education, compassion, and practical care planning.

At Origin Health Center, Dr. Kaila strives to create a safe and nonjudgmental space where patients feel comfortable discussing their health. Her hope is that every patient leaves feeling heard, educated, inspired, and hopeful.

Outside the clinic, she is an avid gardener with approximately 35 fruit trees and a garden filled with vegetables and herbs. She feels honored to serve Oakland and the Bay Area’s diverse community and believes that people become stronger when they learn from and support one another.
