Folic acid is also known as Vitamin B9, Folate, and L-methylfolate.

Vitamin B9 protects against neural tube defects, severe depression, reduce risk of stroke, great for cardiovascular health, encourage healthy cholesterol levels, provides neurological support, support colon health, and reduces risk of age-related macular degeneration,

What is the difference between folate, folic acid, and l-methylfolate? Folate is the natural form of Vitamin B9. Folic acid is the synthetic form of Vitamin B9. Lastly, L-methylfolate is the most active form of Vitamin B9.

When we consume folate or folic acid, our body has to go through a process called methylation to convert it to L-methylfolate or 5-MTHF to be used. L-methylfolate is the only form that can be transported into our cells, our tissues, and across the blood-brain barrier.

When our body is lacking the MTHF enzyme, we will not be able to convert folate or folic acid into the active form, which means our body will be deficient of this Vitamin B9.
