GETTING TO KNOW DR. MAN VY NGUYEN
My name is Dr. Mẫn Vy, I am a board licensed Naturopathic Medical Doctor in the State of California. My atypical name was given to me by my father in honor of my hard working, loving mother, Mỹ Vân. My mother has instilled in me the importance of wisdom and education, the obligation to serve others, and the value of self-sacrifice. She is the reason I became a Naturopathic Doctor.

“Everyday is a chance to love, to look with eyes of compassion, to be broken, to be healed, to learn, to let go of everything, and to learn new ways of being!”
My family and I immigrated to Oakland, California from Viet Nam when I was 11 years old. I grew up in Oakland, and attended Oakland Public Schools until I went to UC Berkeley for my undergraduate study. I received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology and minored in Education. Upon graduating from UC Berkeley, I realized I needed to find a career that i could wake up everyday and go to work without feeling like working. I decided to go back to school while working full time to complete my prerequisites for Medical School.
I obtained my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine degree from South West College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM). I learned the importance of being present, being an attentive listener and a keen observer when I am with patients. I learned how to use the available resources and tools to help me diagnose problems. And I learned how to use different appropriate treatment protocols that best fit my patient’s needs. And most importantly, I learned how to be a teacher.
With Naturopathic Medicine, all of my dreams have come true. I get to be a teacher like I always wanted to be. I get to use my interpersonal skills I have developed over the years to work with different groups of people in the community, and I also use my knowledge as a doctor to help people with their health.
One of the core principles of Naturopathic Medicine is that our bodies have the innate ability to heal, so it is important that we understand what we can do to support its function. Therefore, it is my hope to be here as your doctor, your teacher and your friend, to guide you through this process and restore your health.
